...I believe it is in our best interests to travel together. That way, should one of us succumb to the golden flowers the others can snap them out of things.

Likewise, I believe we should start with the eastern path. It should be quick to determine if it is a dead end.

Doesn't that strike you as awfully straight-forward, for a quest to fix something as weird as passing time.

But I'm not interested in getting stuck here if I can help it. So if that's the way we have to go ...

[She is going to start walking, at any rate '-'!]

[You all head east, I assume.

Sadly, it comes to a dead end pretty quickly.]

I have stopped questioning the nature of these quests. Portraits are each unique unto themselves.

[Oh! Dead end.] ...And now we know.

[With a small smile, she heads back the way she came, and heads for the south path.]

[staring at that.] So we do. [then turning, to head back the way they came, and likewise down the south path.]

I'm not surprised. [she just leaves that comment there, where it is, unconcerned with offering an explanation.]

[...Well that sucks.

Since everyone else is turning around so will she!!]

[You return to the start and head down the south path.

This path goes for some distance until its end, at which point it turns toward the east again. It then continues to another crossroads, where it either continues east or turns toward the north. Both directions stretch into the distance, and it's difficult to tell where either one turns.]

[Looking along between the two.]

Lace, are you able to sense things through your ribbons? For that matter, how far do they stretch?

[If it isn't obvious, she's considering checking both at once.]

[a pissy little look. she's not entirely thrilled about having to confess a limitation, but she's not going to say she can do it and have to reveal it anyway.] Not that far.

...Maybe we should just pick a direction and go?

[A small nod.] I see. It is further than I am able to dash without wasting too much energy, as well.

[In her own way, it's like a trade. Subtle information for subtle information--balancing things.]

[Then, turning towards Phoebe.] That is a good idea. Let us continue straight forward, so as not to get turned around too much.

[Assuming that by straight forward you mean east, you continue that way.

The path continues straight for quite some distance. Eventually, another crossroads appears, another choice between continuing east or turning to the north. The northern path appears shorter than the eastern one, though it's still hard to see whether either one turns or not.]

[eyeing the distance. how much shorter are we talking, here ...?]

[she can probably stretch out a single piece of herself about twenty, thirty feet, can she reach the end of it if she did ...]

[The shorter one's a little under 40 feet to the end. But if you can feel along the walls, the width of the maze is fairly generous, so who knows what you might find...]

[it's farther than she'd be willing to attempt, so she tables the idea, not even considering the sides of the maze after judging their height to be too high to crawl over.]

I say we keep on east again.

This seems acceptable.

[You head east.

The path goes quite a ways before eventually turning north once again. Going north, it'll turn to the west for a brief distance before immediately turning south a ways. That, however, is a dead end.

There's something glittering in the hedge over this way.]

[not actually going to go for it. it's not the flowers they're looking for, it's not important.]

[what Macaron or the doll girl do about the glittery thing is their problem, Lace is already sighing and preparing to turn back.]

[Living within the hedge, there sure are hundreds of tiny golden flowers, each one giving off a faint sparkling glow. They're sure pretty, wouldn't you agree? Just makes you want to get closer and get a better look at just how they're doing that, right?

Assuming that you watch them long enough, also, you may start to hear things...
